Hotel Girassol - Suite Hotel - Funchal (Madeira)

The staff was friendly and helpful.

The room had a persistent sewage smell that was unbearable and the bathroom was definitely in need of better maintenance. I felt uncomfortable living in an environment that seemed worn and unclean, and I regretted not switching rooms. The advertised heated pool was far too cold to enjoy, especially when I expected a much better experience based on previous stays in Madeira.

Unfortunately, the room had a persistent odor that was like a bad sewer escapade was great. The heated pool remained off when I visited, which seemed like a cost-saving measure rather than providing guests a warm place to swim, especially at the end of November. Common areas, particularly the 11th-floor hallway, felt drab and damp, likely due to worn carpets and a lack of light, which dampened the mood as I walked back to my suite. The breakfast spread came off as stale and repetitive, particularly disappointing in a place known for its fresh produce, it felt uninspired and lacked variety. The space seemed like it could use some serious upgrades, from decor to facilities, leaving it feeling like a potential four-star not quite living up to its reputation.

The room we booked was brand-new and stocked with 2 single beds put together, fantastic views, champagne.

greatly enjoyed our room that was always kept clean and available with sofa, the bedroom. the location was magnificent for funchal, so close to restaurants and water sports and local buses into city center, the town centre...  

The executive suite offered beautiful sea views, but the room smelled of sewage.

The venue is clean and reasonably spacious, views are fabulous, the location is marvellous and absolutely perfect close to a sea, the main tourist area, and the christmas lights. The rooms are recently renovated and well-stocked with a balcony and...  

The pool area needs better organization to avoid blocked paths between sunbeds!!! Rooms could use a complete refresh, particularly the outdated decor and the questionable cleanliness standards in several areas!!!

Didn't like anything, except breakfast variety.

We had the best time relaxing by the pool and enjoying the fine sea views from our Executive Suite. The two pool areas were perfect for lounging, and we also loved the accessibility to local bars...
